Joy, laughter, anticipation, butterflies, bliss, tension, and relief. Wedding days run high on a multitude of emotions and it's what has kept me hooked year after year. Most of us, at one point or another, have looked back on our own parents or grandparents wedding photos with some sense of adoration and nostalgia. It is with this same sentiment that I strive to document weddings. Your wedding photographs should ripen over time, offering a delayed reaction that grows more meaningful as life carries on and memories fade.

Sierra & Elijah– Kauai Wedding Photographers
Gage and I met Sierra and Elijah early last year right after I had made the move to Seattle. We ventured around Olympic National park on a chilly day in February capturing their photos and left that day thinking what truly special people they are. That day is still one of my favorites so it was no surprise that their wedding also ranks pretty high.
Honestly this is one of my favorite galleries… from the couple, the location, the guests, their family helicopter company flying over the ceremony to drop flowers from the sky, shooting with my favorite person, and 366 film photos later, it was one for the books.
Gage and I flew in late on a Thursday night. We were greeted with a rather wet and stormy evening that showed no sign of letting up. There had been something of a monsoon the last few days and it seemed to be lingering.
The next morning, blessed with a weather window, we woke up early and made our way for a helicopter tour of the island. Sierra was born and raised in Kauai and her grandfather owns one of the oldest helicopter tour companies on the island. They were incredibly generous and gifted us a tour for the morning and it was an experience of a lifetime. If there is a “classic Hawaii” its definitely Kauai and getting to see it from the air felt like a dream. The island is so full of life and energy, it left us in awe and covered with goosebumps.
By the time Saturday rolled around, the stormy weather subsided and miraculously provided the most beautiful and unique light for every different moment throughout their day. Dark and deep moody clouds for the portraits in the taro fields, bright— yet somehow still soft— sunshine for the ceremony, and then a truly epic sunset for reception that had every guest surrounding the cliffs as if it was a show in itself. It was the kind of sunset that lingered and got better after it set…. but I’ll let the photos do the talking:)
